For theft deterrence place your handbag in your auto first and close the door before unloading your cart into your trunk. This prevents a snatch and run scenario.

Also do not use your cellphone when walking through parking lots.  Thieves look for the unaware.

When stopping behind other vehicles you can prevent tail end crashes by stopping where you can see the wheels of the car in front of you touching the ground. This usually provides enough distance between the two vehicles to have adequate time to manage a bump to your rear from becoming one where you are pushed into the vehicle in front of you.
